Band Name

The name Inara is a girls name, some say of Arabic origin, some say that the origin is uncertain. Specific meanings vary, but it is something along the lines of "ray of light," or "to illuminate."

What the name means to the band is simply "badass."

The name was coined by Greg and Sam in early 2007. Greg had mentioned before Inara was formed that, "If I ever have another band, I'm just going to give it a girl's name."

Having first heard the name Inara on the kickass movie "Serenity," the name Inara was chosen purely because the way "Inara" sounds when spoken, and the way it looks when written properly conveys the nuances of the band's musical style in a single word that is unique.

It doesn't hurt that the band loves Serenity. Of course, Mal and Kaleigh are much cooler characters than Inara, but the name "Mal and Kaleigh" would sound really dumb don't you think?
